What began as a hobby in 1987 has evolved into a long lasting devotion to loving and learning from the speedy, agile and affectionate breed of dog known as the whippet.
Three special Bunnygetters are responsible for getting us hooked on whippets: BIF Nigels Longstanding Ovation CDX, SC, TDI , LCM , CGC( Nigel )BIF Little Abby Quicksilver CD, TDI, FCH, CGC (Nigel's little sister Abby )
BIF With old Wheeling whippets featuring heavily in their pedigrees, we had a solid foundation from which to start the Bunnygetter line. History: The Bunnygetter website is a tribute to the whippets we have shared our lives with for the past 22 years. The Bunnygetter name was inspired by Carrie's Grandfather, and from our past work to rescue abandoned domestic rabbits and place them in loving pet homes. Bunnygetter is the force that has kept two families in close contact despite a distance of over 1500 miles. Carrie was introduced to whippets while searching for her first show dog. She fell in love with the sleek outline, willing disposition, and supreme athleticism of the whippet. In 1987 she purchased her first whippet puppy, BIF Nigel's Longstanding Ovation CDX, SC, TDI, LCM. Patty was first introduced to whippets in 1984 when one of her veterinary school classmates brought her whippet to an anatomy class study session. She was impressed with the patience and gentle manner the elegant dog displayed while several eager freshman veterinary students palpated various anatomic landmarks in preparation for their upcoming final examination. Prior to beginning her residency in Pathology, Patty acquired her first whippet, BIF Little Abby Quicksilver CD, FCH, TDI, from Carrie and was introduced to the sport of lure coursing ( a sport involving whippets chasing a plastic bag attached to a dragline in a open field ) and the challenges of competitive obedience. Since that time, she and her husband Bruce have loved and trained 9 whippets. Bruce became fondly known as Papa Bruce in 1992 after bottle raising 7 pups in the first litter of Bunnygetters.
