We got Bridget from Elaine and Sean McMichael in June of 2003
when she was 10 weeks old. I remember Bruce sitting down on Elaine’s
couch shortly after we arrived and Bridget immediately springing
like an oversized grasshopper into his lap. She has been his whippet
from that moment on. Bridget was so good on the 2 day car ride back
to Boston. The first night in a motel she snuggled her tiny body
right up next to Papa Bruce and slept through the night. We could
not have asked for an easier puppy to raise. Bruce has done all of
her obedience training, so needless to say, she works with enviable
enthusiasm and precision. We began her lure coursing career in the
fall of 2004. The most memorable event to date is when Bruce took
her to the 2005 International Invitational (I.I.) in Kelly’s Ford,
Virginia. It was the first I.I. for both of them. Our initial plans
to rent a motor home and make a summer vacation out of the trip were
derailed when Chance was diagnosed with cancer. Bruce decided at the
last minute to load up the gear in our small pick up truck and head
to Virginia with Bridget. The first day of the trial, Bruce was
delighted when Bridget placed 3rd in her stake, but he never
anticipated that the following day she would be bringing home a
medal and the longest blue ribbon he had ever seen for 1st
place in the Open Division. Bridget has brought home many blue
ribbons since then, but none will be as special as the first trip to
the I.I. We are grateful to Elaine for selecting this amazing
whippet for us from the Bubba x Gwena Time litter. In June of 2008,
Bridget whelped a beautiful litter of 5 pups (4 males, 1 female)
sired by Ellery (see litters page). She finished her Rally Novice
title at the AWC National in 2009.
